Conducting Old Friends at the Gielgud Theatre, London
Cameron Mackintosh production Staring Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga
Isaac is a passionate, experienced, and ambitious Musical Director with a dynamic career in Musical Theatre, both in the UK and internationally. His dedication to elevating Musical Theatre to its highest standards is evident in every project he undertakes.
Whether providing sensitive accompaniment, crafting additional music, or guiding performers to their best possible performances, Isaac consistently strives for unparalleled musicianship. His infectious enthusiasm permeates throughout the company, inspiring excellence in all around him.
Classically trained at two of the world’s premier musical institutions—Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester and The Royal College of Music in London—Isaac is a versatile musician. Alongside his expertise in piano and conducting, he trained as an orchestral bassoonist, offering him unique insights into orchestral dynamics and the conductor’s role. This comprehensive training equips Isaac with a robust skill set, enabling him to promote and encourage top-tier music-making.
Isaac is currently the Musical Director for the world premiere stage adaptation of The Artist, adapted by Lindsey Ferrentino and Drew McOnie, featuring original music by Simon Hale. Previously, he served as Associate Musical Director for Old Friends at the Gielgud Theatre, where he worked with and conducted an all-star cast, including Bernadette Peters, Lea Salonga, Bonnie Langford, Joanna Riding, and Janie Dee, in a celebration of Stephen Sondheim’s work, directed by Sir Matthew Bourne and industry legend Julia McKenzie.
Isaac musically supervised the West End concert revival of The Witches of Eastwick, directed by the original ‘Sukie,’ Maria Friedman. In collaboration with composer Dana P. Rowe, he mounted the concert production, conducting a 14-piece orchestra and an all-star cast, including Carrie Hope Fletcher, Laura Pitt-Pulford, Natasha Barnes, and Claire Moore.
As Assistant Musical Director of Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre, Isaac was integral to the original creative team that mounted the revival in 2019. Regularly conducting the show, he showcased and maintained a high level of pianism, tackling one of the most demanding piano scores in the repertoire.
Isaac thrives under pressure, as demonstrated by his experience conducting some of the world’s biggest musicals, including Mary Poppins, Miss Saigon, and Sunset Boulevard. He has had the pleasure of collaborating with some of the most renowned figures in Musical Theatre, including composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz. Together, they co-produced Working: A Musical (Original London Cast Album) at Abbey Road Studios. Other notable artists Isaac has worked with include Cynthia Erivo, Petula Clark, Frances Ruffelle, Zizi Strallen, Charlie Stemp, Danny Mac, Jason Pennycooke, and Gavin Lee.
Committed to nurturing young talent, Isaac teaches regularly at Arts Educational and has been an associate tutor at Guildford School of Acting, Performance Preparation Academy, and Sylvia Young Theatre School. Additionally, he runs his own private singing studio, fostering the next generation of performers.
